Meetings at the Kingdom Hall are TRUE worship!
by punkofnice in...or so i used to think.. what is worship?.
not sitting listening to wtb$ corporation propoganda which is more a sales seminar than worship.. not giving talks, sermons or demonstrations designed to make you better sales persons in field misery for the benefit of your reputation when the elders jusde you.. not constantly being hypnotized to believe i am not good enough and must do more or my imaginary friend in the sky will lovingly kill me soon (terms and conditions apply and are subject to 'overlapping').
not answering from a hi-lited piece of litter-trash at indoctrination sessions designed to make you better recruiters so the gb can have power and money.. if i were god i wouldn't consider 7.5million sheeple obeying 7 power trippers in brooklyn worship to me.....idoliary, yes.

punk, great topic. We just had this nonsense in that awful congregation book study publication. They went on and on about how the Jews were so foolish for being hung up on worshipping at an actual temple instead of putting faith in Jesus. God needs to be worshipped in spirit, not in some man-made structure. I guess I was the only one in audience who saw the irony of saying this while sitting in a building constructed by human hands for the purpose of "worship."
Now, there will be some JWs who would argue this inconsistency by claiming that the Kingdom Hall is not really a temple where Jehovah's Prescence is but this is pure bullschiessen for several reasons:
1) JWs consider attending meeting part of true worship; something that is absolutely necessary.
2) While God himself may not actually be in the building, JWs claim that his Holy Spirit is, as well as angels.
3) A kingdom hall is a temple. it is a house of worship, just like a church, synagogue, temple, cathedrel, mosque, whatever you want to call it.

Are they really that weak willed?
by jean-luc picard inmr falcons thread on jw partys made me think about my new family's get togethers.. once or twice a year, we have a get together/picnic ( around 40 or 50 mostly family ).. we drink quite a bit of wine/ pernod ( our wives or 'sometimes husbands) drive home ).
i have never heard crude talk.
people sware a bit, but in an amusing kind of way.

Mon Capitan, it's actually a mixture of reasons why many JWs feel this way.
First, they are taught that very strict "us vs. them" philosophy. So anyone who is different and not a "lover of Jehovah" (i.e. meeting the criteria laid out by the WTBS) is automatically out. Secondly, it's about image. Your typical Jehovah's Witness would not want other JWs to see them associating with such "Samaritan vermin" for fear of themselves being labeled as "weak." I've noticed this among many JWs who will only invite questionable people if it's a private small party with no other JWs (like a family reunion). But if they have JWs over, they wouldn't want to "stumble" any of their "brothers."

Holy Spirit in Judicial Committees
by Mr. Falcon inone of the most controversial practices of jehovah's witnesses is the operation of judicial committees.
these specially-assigned inquisitory boards are manned by at least 3 elders and interrogate, investigate and finally prosecute a person believed to be guilty of any number of offenses.
these offenses can be anything from heavy drinking, masturbation, swearing to infidelity, apostacy even issues of bloodguilt.

Sadly though, they were the minority, the majority of elders would make the decisions without looking in the Elders book or the Bible for any reminding direction.
Even sadder is now, if I'm not mistaken, the minority vote is expected to go along with the majority. So that one possibly-merciful elder can't even help you in the end.

Demos on the platform versus actual reality in FS
by Alfred inwe've all seen these demos a million times... perfectly rehearsed mini-dramas at the end of the theocratic school and during the service meetings (usually played by the same "exemplary" publishers and pioneers of the elite congo clique).
you know what i'm talking about... the ones where they always speak the right words and cite the "appropriate" proof texts in perfect harmony with borg guidelines.
so much so, that new "studies" or visitors who are unfamiliar with these "elite" brothers and sisters are completely awe-struck by their enthusiasm, "spirituality" and eloquence displayed on stage.. but then an inexplicable "phenomena" unfolds every saturday at 9am.

Paralipomenon, you get a hat-tip for being so awesome.
For the sake of arguement, let's say that the JW faith is the true faith and it is necessary to train JWs to go door to door (I know, I know, just bear with me). What's the use in training them with unrealistic scenerios?
"Good morning, have you ever wondered why God allows suffering?"
"Why yes! I was just sitting here wondering that VERY thing! Come in, come in! Can I donate some money?"
yeah, okay.

karter, I hate that "imperfect men" crap. It's right up there with the whole "only following orders" bit. We had some good comments about this on this thread. Plus there's an awesome picture of Christina Hendicks you gotta check out.

Your observations are accurate. What we see in the scripted sales pep rallies at the conventions and Kingdom Halls are about as realistic as Hogwarts. The majority of the JWs who knock on your door will either be just phoning in a performance, hoping you take the magazines, while others will just mumble through a poorly prepared presentation. The latter part I chalk up to JWs having HORRENDOUS social skills. Few things in life are as painful as having to be the 2nd JW at a door where the JW giving the presentation is absolutely bombing and the householder grows more and more annoyed.

assemblies and my lovely wife
by stillin ini finally put a couple of pieces together that have boggled me for years.. i would take my family to the conventions and assemblies and for some reason, my wife would always be upset or start an argument in the car on the way home, or in the week that follows.
i realize now that her frustration is that i am not the guy in the demonstrations.
you know, the guy who has the bestfriend/elder who always says the perfect thing and the guy is so humble and does this little talks-to-himself thing where he reveals his deep spirituality and applies the ever-so-wise words of his friend and after that life is just great again!.
